Random Observations

Procrastination is the fear of boredom or the fear of running out of something to do.

Why or why not?

Not for me, anyway. There are many more enjoyable things to do when I quit procrastinating the tasks I need to complete. My reason is usually rooted in sloth. (I have an entire breakfast of dishes waiting to be cleaned as I type!)

I never proctrastinate in order to have something to do later, if that's what I mean. If I'm procrastinating, it is because I'm dreading what needs to be done because there's too much work involved (so a different kind of fear), or (at work) because I am afraid it will bore me. I work much more efficiently closer to the deadline, and "soft" deadlines do nothing for me. I have to have external motivation for some tasks.

I don't think this fear of boredom is the immediate reason for procrastination, but the reason at the bottom. Dread of drudgery or efficiency at the deadline contributes to procrastination, but I think the existential fear is about lacking a purpose so you make sure you will have a purpose by always having something you should be doing even if you never do it.
